This disappearing spider trick is an easy Halloween science exercise and an excellent refraction demonstration.
Youngsters can watch as a drawing of a spider disappears when water is poured right into a glass over the picture.
Disappearing Spider Trick
You may want
Glass cup or jar
Drawing of a spider on a sheet of paper
Water
Directions
Place a drawing of a spider beneath the glass.
Slowly fill the glass with water and watch the spider disappear.
Why does it work?
Mild (from the solar or synthetic mild) travels in a straight line, bounces off objects, and enters our eyes, permitting us to see issues. Usually, there’s little or no refraction of sunshine because it travels by way of air.
Nonetheless, once you pour water into the glass or jar, the sunshine from the spider drawing is refracted ( bends ) and does not attain your eyes, which is why the spider appears to vanish.
